Summer Reading registration has officially started and is open to ages newborn through incoming seniors in high school! You can register in person, or request curbside service registration by calling 361-798-3243 ext. 208.
Registration will be open till July 9th.
Just like last summer, our minimum reading goal is 300 pages. Readers must reach the 300 page goal in order to be entered into our Summer Reading Raffle and to receive participation prizes at the end of Summer Reading.
Once again, we have some amazing raffle prizes up for grabs. 13 Summer Reading participants will get the chance to take home an iPad, and 1 lucky grand prize winner will take home an iPad + Apple Smart Keyboard + Apple Pencil!
Stop by and pick up a reading log when you register. Remember, the more you read, the more raffle tickets you earn, the more chances you have to win!
The Library staff would like to thank the Dickson-Allen Foundation, Sacred Heart FCU, Peoples State Bank, and Mike & Brenda Fisseler for their generous Summer Reading donations! Without our community love and support we just wouldn't be the same.
The Texas Historical Records Advisory Board (THRAB) chose Brenda Lincke Fisseler as the recipient for the award in the individual category for her extensive work with Lavaca County records.
Ms. Fisseler helped coordinate an initiative to rescue, preserve, properly house and facilitate access to historical records documenting the county that led to the creation of the Lavaca County Archives. She has demonstrated the enormous impact one individual may have on preserving our collective history.
Happy announcement moms: Story Time is back this Thursday, June 18!! We will be having our first Story Time since we had to close in March and we are so excited!
We will gather outside in our Green Space so we encourage you to bring blankets to sit on for your comfort. The area is well shaded in the morning, but Texas heat can be unpredictable, so dress cool, and feel free to bring any refreshments for yourself and the little ones.
Since it is officially summer for all of us, there will be no age restriction on children attending Story Time, all are welcome!
It is important to remember that the Corona Virus numbers in Texas are still rising. The staff presenting Story Time will be wearing masks when mingling in closer proximity with the group. We encourage any families attending to interact will fellow Story Timers at their own comfort level.
We look forward to seeing you again!
The After Hours Genealogy is two hours each month where genealogists, historians and researchers can visit the library and have all of the resources in our collection available to them including individualized assistance from our local history staff.
